Earth represents the energy of nurturing, nourishing, abundance, belonging, and home. It is the energy of the great mother, and because we are of Earth, we hold this same power within us. However, if we hold onto wounds inflicted by others, this makes the connection to this powerful energy very difficult.
If you think of Mother Earth as a dangerous place to be, a place to use for your own benefit, and separate from yourself, you will go through life cut off from the one great source of spiritual nourishment.
When you go outside, open up all of your senses, become fully aware of your surroundings, move slowly, and observe the infinite variety of her ways. Notice that Mother Earth is a being, an entity. One way to connect with nature is through plants: gardening, collecting plants from the wild, growing succulents and herbs, and having plants that are meaningful, magical, and useful in and around your home to promote a connectedness with Mother Earth.
Plants can enrich your daily life, bring comfort and joy, and remind you that however you think of yourself, you are an integral part of the world.
Here are three ways to connect to the powers of Mother Earth:
1. Sing or Talk to Your Plants. Next time you’re out in nature, sing or talk to the trees, plants, animals, and Mother Earth. Here are some words to get your started: "Mother Earth, I feel held by you. I am safe within your arms. You and I share the same voice. We are connected. We are one." Now, inhale through your nose and exhale through your mouth with a big, noisy, "Ahhhhh!" When you are done, take a few minutes to remain quiet, listen to your body's inner rhythms and send your positive intentions to Mother Earth.
2. Spend time sitting in one space with Mother Earth. Spend as much time as you can in one spot. Use your intuition to pick a spot that makes you feel safe, secure and that resonates at the core of your being. Connect to her powerful energy by taking some time to sit on the ground. As you are deeply connecting, feel the soil or grass below you. During this time, use all of your senses and allow yourself to feel the loving, nurturing arms of the great mother as she holds you, and honors who you are in this moment.
3. Frog pose. Try embodying frog who is deeply connected to the life force energy of Mother Earth: Squat down with your heels raised and touching each other, and your arms between your legs directly under shoulders with your fingertips on floor. Inhale and hop up into a standing position with your hands coming off the floor. Your arms are straight and tight with the same angle they had in the squatting position. Exhale and hop back down into frog pose. Continue at a pace that is right for you.
Here is a short list of benefits of Connecting to Mother Earth:
Increases energy and power within us
Lowers stress and promotes a calm body and mind
Soothes the nervous system and reduces stress hormones
Naturalizes our biological rhythms
Lowers blood pressure
Relieves muscle tension and headaches
Connects you to the power you hold within you
Mother Earth feeds the soil, seeds, and every form of life, including the seeds of our soul. This makes it possible for us to grow into unique, earthly expression of the Great Mother. It starts by becoming aware of our bodies. Then we feel our feet and base of our spine receive the life force energy from Mother Earth. The more we experience being one with these primal earth energies, the more we are nourished and healed by our Earth Mother.
Connect to Mother Earth daily, by going outside in bare feet. If you are in a high-rise building, grow a small patch of grass indoors to connect and allow her energy to flow into your body. When the flow begins, we become instantly revitalized by the healing power of Mother Earth.
